Blog#331US Open Shinnecock Hills CC.
Southampton, NY Par 70
June 18-21, 2026 Purse+20M
HISTORY
This is the 126th US OPEN and the 6th at Shinnecock. The 1st in 1896 won by James Foulis and the last 2018 won by Bruce Koepka. Other winners 1986 Raymond Floyd, 1995 Corey Pavin, 2004 Relief Goosen. It is one of 5 charter clubs who formed the USGA.
The other 4 are; Newport CC Newport RI, The Country Club Brookline MA, Chicago GC Wheaton IL, Saint Andrew’s GC, Hastings-on-Hudson, NY. Last years winner JJ Spahn made a long putt on #14 for the lead, and a 65’ putt on 18 to win by 2 strokes and the only player to break par. Scottie Scheffler was the favorite but finished 11th and did not shoot under par in all 4 rounds. First 3 RDs were +par, final RD par 70.
Shinnecock has about 300 members and an initiation fee of $250,000. Guests must be invited by a member and guest green fees are $350 plus walking with a caddie is mandatory requiring separate caddie fee and tip.
MY WINNER I’m going with Scottie Scheffler. A great opportunity for him to get on track.
He would complete the Grand Slam and re-establish him as world #1. A lot depends on RD 1, which has been his nemesis all year. If he leads or is within 2, I think he will take over in RD2 and win. The competition is stiff and of the top 25 if he falters 1 of them should win.
FAVORITES
Scottie Scheffler at 5.5/1 He has 7 top 10’s, OWGR#1, 2nd at Masters, and its a bad year?
*2 Rory McIlroy 12/1 Won Masters, 7th at PGA, 12th at Memorial, he will be in the hunt.
*3 Jon Rahm 13/1 38th at Masters but seemed his old self at PGA#2, watch out
4 Xander Schaufler 18/1 To inconsistent to win despite 5 top 10s.
*5 T Fleetwood 20/1 Memorial#4, Canadian Open, chance to win but 3 bogies last 8 holes.
*5 Matt Fitzpatrick 20/1Players#2, PGA#14, Canadian Open #2 with 2 wins.
7 Ludvig Aberg 22/1 #6 FedX Cup,#13 OWGR, 6 top 10’s but 0 wins, always has a few DB’s.
7 Cameron Young 22/1 #3 FedX & OWGR 2 wins & 6 top 10’s but pretty quiet lately.
9 Si Woo Kim 33/1 This guy is always in the hunt but finds a way to lose.
9 Bryson De Chambeau 33/1 Likable & talented but he may never win another Major.
*10 Sam Burns 35/1 He has come so close so many times but like Si Woo, finds a way to lose.
10 Russell Henley 35/1 Will always compete, not this time, had his moment winning Schwab.
*13 Patrick Reed 40/1 He is coming back to PGA post LIV like Koepka, but is playing better.
13 Tyrrell Hatton 40/1 Another great golfer whose game has suffered with LIV, no way he wins.
16 Colin Morikawa 40/1 Like Spieth & JT he is just too inconsistent especially with the putter.
*16 Viktor Hovland 40/1 If he can find the magic of the last 2 RDs at Canadian, who knows.
16 Justin Thomas 40/1 He and his buddy Spieth are done, Fowler(125/1) may win a fall event!
LONG-SHOTS
1 Aaron Rai 70/1 If he catches lightning in a bottle like he did
2 Joaquin Niemann 70/1 #3 Cameron Smith 100/1. Both these guys have done well on LIV,
but their game has gone downhill. I doubt if the PGA wants or allows these 2 back.
COMMENTARY
This should be a very competitive US Open unless Scheffler gets a great start and runs away with it. Rahm and McIlroy should make it interesting and it is such a star studded field someone could surprise. However I feel that Scottie will win and if not him, one of the *above.
