#21 LIV/PGA Activity Dec 19, 2023
The PGA continues to get negative press as Viktor Hovland, one of the best young golfers calls PGA Management “arrogant” and has done “a damn bad job” in its dealings with PIF/LIV. He remains committed to the PGA Tour “for the foreseeable future”.
On the bright side, Joe Ogilvie, a former PGA pro whom I have reported on previously on Nov 7 Blog#6 is a successful investment advisor, reports that the PGA has the ability to raise billions of dollars at any time. Despite recent setbacks this may give them the ability get the concessions they want in the future agreement which has a goal of some type of agreement by December 31, 2023. There have been no leaks as to any progress in meeting this goal. The first PGA event is The Sentry (formerly Sentry Tournament of Champions) scheduled for; Jan 4-7, 2024 with a purse of $15M up from $8.2M in 2023. LIV’s first tournament will be at EL Chameleon GC in Mayadoba Mexico scheduled for Feb2-4, 2024 expected purse is $20M split with 48 players and $5M split between 4 members of winning team, which was last years purse for all 14 tournaments. A good start for the “new agreement” would to allow selected players from each league to participate in both initial tournaments, but I doubt this will happen.
