RESULTS ST JUDE CHAMPIONSHIP AUGUST 10 T0 13, 2023
ROUND 1 Jordan Spieth plays the best RD of golf in a very long time. Bogie free with 1 eagle, a 40’ shot from off the green on #16, and 5 birdies.
ROUND 1
#1 Jordan Spieth-7 63 Picked #8 to win at 25/1.
#2 Tom Kim-6 64 (40/1) My longshot to win if he can close better, he bogies his 16th hole.
#3 Collin Morikawa-5 65 Only 1 bogie, playing better than I expected.
#3 Emiliano Grillo-5 65 (80/1) Crazy Rd with 8 birdies but 3 bogies, he will fade.
#4 Eric Cole-4 66 (110/1) One of my sentimental favorites, birdied 4 of first 8 holes, then par.
#4 Lucas Glover-4 66 Another sentimental pick, 5 birdies. 1 bogie.
#4 Tommy Fleetwood-4 66 Good RD but he always seems to find a way to lose.
#15 Keegan Bradley-3 67 Another one of my longshots. Pretty good RD only 2 bogies.
#15 Xander Scheffele-3 67 Survived a DB.
#15 Scottie Scheffler-3 67 Same as Scheffele with 1 DB, but I don’t think he can win.
#15 Rory McIlroy-3 67 Bogies 2 of his last 3 holes. Another poor finish.
19 players are at -3, several other big names.
#65 Jon Rahm +3 73/ 1DB, 4 bogies and only 1 birdied on final 12 holes.
ROUND 2
#1 Lucas Glover-10 64 Only 1 bogie in 2 RDs. Can he win 2 weeks in a row?
#2 Jordan Spieth-9 68 Another up and down RD 4 bogies & 6 birdies.
#3 Tommy Fleetwood-8 66 Two 66’s in a row.
#3 Emiliano Grillo-8 67 Stumbled early with 2 bogies on 4 & 5, but then had 4 birdies.
#3 SJ Im-8 65 Jumps 12 spots with 3 out of 4 birdies on last 4 holes.
#3 Tom Kim-8 Bogie free.
#8 Taylor Moore-8 66 Two 66’s in a row have him in contention, but can he continue.
#8 Rory McIlroy-7 66 Strong finish birdied 2 of last 4 holes.
#8 Scottie Scheffler-66 Not perfect but strong finish, 3 birdies 1 bogie on last 4 holes.
#31 Eric Cole-4 70 No Cinderella story here, but should make top 50.
#39 Keegan Bradley -2 71/ 3 bogies may have taken him out of a chance to win.
#46 Jon Rahm-1 67 another crazy RD 5 birdies but 2 bogies. Total 6 bogies in first 2 RDs.
Only surprises Glover, Grillo, and Im, also poor showing by Rahm.
ROUND 3
#1 Lucas Glover-14 66 Great start 4 birdies in first 6 holes, then just steady.
#2 Taylor Moore-13 65 Little known, has 1 win and bogied 18 or tied for lead.
#3 Jorden Spieth-11 68 Could win, but will find a way to lose.
#3 Max Homa-11 65 Birdied 5 of last 10 holes to move from #14 to 3.
#6 Viktor Hovland-9 65 As usual ruins a great RD by hitting into the water for DB on #18.
#23 Scottie Scheffler-6 70 His putting was awful as it has been all year.
#5 Tommy Fleetwood-9 Up & down RD 3 bogies, 7 birdies, 3 on last 5 holes.
#42 Jon Rahm-3 67 Not playing his best golf, but hanging in there, 2DBs So far.
#70 Wyndham Clark+6 70 He has 2DB’s & 13 bogies in 3 RDs and finishes #66.
FINAL ROUND McIlroy, Fleetwood, Spieth, Hovland and several had chances to catch Glover, but Cantlay was the only one. On the first playoff hole Cantlay’s tee shot found water and he then just missed a long putt and bogied to Glovers par.
#1 Lucas Glover-15 69 Bogies 14 to loose lead then birdies 16 to tie and win playoff. $3.6M
#2 Patrick Cantlay-15 He birdies 15 & 16 to lead and then tie. $2.16
#3 Rory McIlroy-14 No bogies 5 birdies, and birdied 18 but not enough. $1.16
#3 Tommy Fleetwood-14 Bogies #2 & #12 and loses again. $1.16
#5 Taylor Moore-12 71 Four bogies on first 7 holes, can’t hang with big guys. $800K
#6 Max Homa-11 70 along with Spieth 70 (3 bogies on back 9) and 5 others. $584K
#37 Jon Rahm-5 68 Ten bogies in 4 RDs. $88K
