RESULTS ROUNDS 3 & 4 US OPEN June 17&18, 2023
ROUND 3 10 of the 15 LIV players made the cut. Dustin Johnson-6 #3, Cameron Smith-4 #10. Tom Kim birdies 6 of first 9 holes. He is and up and coming star. Has not played well since last years President cup, but has a great personality and is fun to watch. Only 21 years old. Front 9 is playing very easy for early starters. May affect late starters. Ricky Fowler had a 2 stroke lead-11 going into #18 and he missed a long putt by inches. However the ball went way past the hole and left him about an 8’ putt which he missed, then missed a 2 footer for bogie. Instead of the lead he settled for a tie as Clark birdied 18.
#1 Rickie Fowler-10 70 Still the sentimental favorite. Hope he uses #18 as a positive.
#1 Windham Clark-10 69 Definitely the dark horse, but playing very steady.
#3 Rory McIIroy-9 69 Playing as well as he has all year but has had trouble finishing.
#4 Scottie Scheffler-7 68 His putting much better today. I think he may win. I think the winner will come from these 4.
#5 Harris English-6 71 Finished with 4 bogies in last 8 holes.
#6 Dustin Johnson-5 71 Still feeling the sting on Quad in RD 2, 4 bogies today.
#6 Xander Schauffele-5 73 2 bad string of bogies 3 from #1 to #5 & 3 from #13 to #17.
#9 Tom Kim-3 66 Lowest RD of day with 7 birdies on 1st 10 holes. Then 3 bogies on last 6.
#9 Cameron Smith-3 71 Probably too far back to win, but should make top10.
#9 B. DeChambeau-3 68 +2 RD 2 took him out of contention. LIV should have 3 top 10s.
FINAL ROUND Predictions 8:00 AM Sunday 6/18/23. Hope I am wrong and Rickie wins.
#1Scottie Scheffler-12 65 #2Rory McIlroy-10 69 #2Wyndham Clark-10 70#4 Rickie Fowler-8 72
FINAL ROUND Very disappointing round and winner. My opinion is that Clark, although he played well and deserved the win, the tournament was lost by the other top 3. Shooting par on the last RD of the US Open should not win in this day and age. I regrettably predicted that Fowler would fade and he did with 7 bogies. I thought Scheffler and McIlroy would step up and they did not. Clark had 4 birdies but bogied 15 & 16 and still won. McIlroy played the last 5 holes+1, when he had an opportunity to catch or pass Clark. Scheffler just did not play the way I thought he would. It shows what great golfers Tiger and Nicklaus were, and why they have 33 major wins between them. They would have never allowed a golfer with Clark’s background defeat them.
#1 Wyndham Clark-10 70 $3,600,000 Made another $3.6M in May at Wells Fargo.
#2 Rory McIlroy-9 70 $2,160,000 What can you say? Had a chance to win.
#3 Scottie Scheffler-7 70 $1,413,430 On a clutch day, shoots his worse RD of tournament.
#4 Cameron Smith-6 67 $990,867 To much too late 3 birdies on last 9 holes.
#5 Rickie Fowler-5 75 $738,934 He may get a win later this year, could have been here.
#5 Tommy Fleetwood-5 63 $738,000 Lowest RD of the day.
