RESULTS THE MEMORIAL TOURNAMENT first 2 rounds JUNE 1 & 2, 2023

RESULTS THE MEMORIAL TOURNAMENT first 2 rounds JUNE 1 & 2, 2023

In a response to a question about no LIV golfers participating in his tournament, Jack tweeted  “He no longer considers them part of the game”.   Some of the responses to this were not kind. Whether you are for or against LIV,  this is truly a man of integrity and is not afraid to speak his mind.  He and Tiger turned down tons of money offered by LIV.

This is the 48th year and I attended  #3 through #6   I am hoping to get back for another.

ROUND 1 Weather great, about 90 degrees with little wind.  The tournament was on Memorial Day weekend in the past, but the weather was always so bad they moved it up a week.

#18 is a great finishing hole.  Clubhouse in back of the green, plenty of space for patrons to view the fairway and green.  The last group was the best to watch.  However McIlroy and Spieth hit poor tee shots, while Hatton’s tee shot left an approach shot that was an example of the beauty & charm of this finishing hole  He pars, Spieth bogies, McIlroy triple bogies.

Players who bogied 18: Riely, Wallace, Hubbard, Spieth, McIlroy 3X, Lowry, Rahm, Willett.

#1 Davis Riley-5 67(180/1) He started on the back 9, and birdies his final holes 6,7 & 9 to take the lead.  This guy is an up and comer.  He could win!

#2 Matt Wallace-4 68 (350/1) 31 front 9, +1 back 9 with 2 bogies.

He is 33, tuned pro in 2012 has 1 win.  OWGR #120 FedX 64.  Not bad!

#3 Jordan Spieth-3 Only 1 bogie but on 18 to loose tie for lead.

#3 Mark Hubbard-3 67 (400/1) Bogied the last 3 holes to loose the lead.

#3 Shane Lowry-3 67(45/1) Bogied 1 & 18 or would be in the lead.

#3 Danny Willett-3 67(400/1), Adam Hadwin(110/1), Austin Eckroat(300/1),

#10 Jon Rahm-2 70/ Bogied 1st and 18th hole or he is close to lead.  6 others -2.

#17 Hovland-1/ 3 bogies, 4 birdies, Cantlay & 12 others.

#31 McIlroy E, Matsuyama, Fowler & 14 others.

#48 Thirteen golfers, no one can win.  This may be the cut list.

#60 Scottie Scheffler+2 74.  Could miss cut.

#77 Jason Day+4/ Bogied 5 of the 10 par 4’s.

#118 Billy Horschel+12/ 3 DBs, 5 bogies.  Very disappointing, but he talked to the press.

ROUND 2 Weather same as yesterday.  Matsuyama 65 and Suh 66 biggest stories.

Suh was 31 amature in 2018 & 2019.  He won the Korn Ferry Championship In 2022.

#1 Justin Suh-8 66  Only 2 bogies and 10 birdies in 2 RDs to take lead.

#2 Hideki Matsuyama-7 65 Bogie free RD with 7 birdies.  From 32nd place to #1.

#3 Patrick Cantlay-6 67/ 6 birdies including difficult 18th.

#3 David Lipsky-6 69 He birdied 4 of his first 7 holes, then shoots +1.

#7 Rory McIlroy-4 68/ Bounces back from triple bogie on 18 yesterday.  Parred hole today.

#7 Rickie Fowler-4 68 Lately he always stays in the hunt.

#7 Jon Rahm-4 70 Bogied 1st 2 hopes then 4 birdies.  He is not out of it.

#12 Jordan Spieth-3 72/ 3 birdies, 3 bogies.  Only 1 bogie yesterday.

#17 Viktor Hoveland-2 71/ 4 birdies, 3 bogies, 1 on #18.  Typical RD for him.

#22 Xander Schauffele-1 66 Shoots 31 on his front 9 (10 to 18) 5 birdies including #18.

#44 Davis Reiley+1 78 Falls apart! 2 DB’s including #18, plus 5 bogies, 3 birdies.

#61 Scottie Scheffler+4 Wow.

CUT+3 Missed Jason Day+4, Justin Thomas+6, Tom Kim+7, Billy Horschel+12.

MOVING DAY Saturday June 3

Suh will be tested.  If he can hang in there he will have a chance.  Big guys Matsuyama, Cantlay, McIlroy, Rahm, Spieth have all won, and are within reach.

I feel the winner will come out of these 5.
