Purse 2024 $20M, 2025 $21M 2026 ?
HISTORY
1 Rory McIlroy won in a playoff with Justin Rose. At 7/1 he was Ogolfit’s pick.
Rose led in RDs 1&2 but RD3 shot 75 with 5 bogies to drop to 6th. However in RD4
Rose shot a low of 66 and took the lead on #14 when McIlroy bogied. He came back to birdie 14 &17 to tie. Rose makes a 30 foot on putt on 18 to force a playoff.
McIlroy birdies the 1st playoff hole to win.
MY FAVORITES
1) Bryson DeChambeau 10/1 He was in the final group with Rory last year and was 2 strokes behind. He took the lead on #2 but fell apart and finished 6th. He has won twice this year on LIV and I think he is really hungry to win this Masters.
2) Xander Scheffler 16/1 Three top 10s in last 4 tournaments. Missed cut at Farmers then
#41,#19,7,#24,#3,#4 in his last 6, maybe #1 in #7.
3) Matt Fitzpatrick 22/1 Has played better than anyone last 2 tournaments except for his final drive at the Players costing him the win, but comes back the next week to win Valspar.
4) Patrick Reed 33/1 He is leaving LIV and coming back to the PGA. Last finished 3rd-9year and 3 putted #17 on final RD, or may have finish -11 tied for lead.
5 Ludvig Aberg 16/1 Meltdowns at Players and Valero in last month may help or hurt?
My LONG SHOTS
1) Scottie Scheffler 5/1 Favorite and justifiably so, but he has been too unpredictable this year.
2) Cameron Young 22/1 He had such an outstanding Players, he could win his 1st major.
3) Chris Gotterup 50/1 Won 2 of 1st 3 this year, then a mild slump but #6 at Houston Open.
SUPER LONG SHOTS
Jake Knapp 80/1 Has had a great year but no wins and his 1st Masters.
Jacob Bridgeman 80/1 Won Genesis, top 20 in all 8 tournaments played this year.
Justin Rose 30/1 Won The Farmers, 13th at Players with 2 missed cuts.
COMMENTARY
Most of the experts are picking Xander Scheffler especially with course conditions which suit his game. They may be right and he is my 2nd choice, but I still feel that after last year DeChambeau is really motivated. They also feel Scottie is well rested and will get his game back. Not one seems to be giving McIlroy a chance to repeat. Rahm is picked right behind Scheffler by the oddsmakers, so there is a good chance 1 of these 5 will win.
Purse will probably be $22M as they like to increase it every year.
However it is never official until the tournament ends.
