TPC Sawgrass Ponte Vedra Beach FL

Purse $25M same last year

HISTORY

The field of 123 players vs 144 last year when Rory McIlroy won. Scottie Scheffler the won the 2 previous years. Of the 123, 46 ar ein the OWGR top 50.

The first Payers tournament was held at the Atlantic CC in Marietta GA in 1974, Jack Nicklaus won $50,000.

FAVORITES

1 Scottie Scheffler 4.4/1 Picked #1 Last year finished 6th and the way he is playing?

2 R. McIlroy Picked at 8/1 last year and won, but with his back issues he may not play.

3 C. Morikawa 20/1 Finished last 3 tournaments 5th, 3rd, 7th & won Pebble Beach, he wins.

4 Si Woo Kim 25/ A real dark horsed, finished 13th last week but always in the hunt.

4 Ludvig Åberg 25/1 His game getting better but he seems to always make a foolish mistake.

4 Tommy Fleetwood 25/1 Always a sentimental favorite, but not this week.

7 Xander Schauffele 27/1 Like Aberg his game keeps improving and this could be the week.

8 Russell Henley Henley 30/1 In 5 tournaments this year 2 top 10s 2 top 20s 1 cut.

9 Cameron Young 33/1 Playing very well at these odds it may be a good bet.

10 H Matsuyama 35/1 Another guy if his game is on he could win.

11 Min Woo Lee 40/1 Two top 10s 3 top 25s in his 5 starts, putting an issue.

12 Viktor Hovland 40/1 Only 1 top 10 in 4 starts. Best #13 last week at Arnold Palmer.

13 Akshay Bhatia 40/1 If he plays the way he did for the last 9 holes last week, watch out.

I can’t see anyone other than 1 of these winning.

LONG SHOTS AT 100/1 Last week results who have best odds after top 13.

Michael Thorbjorsen, Keith Mitchell, Corey Conners allied for 33rd, Jason Day Cut,

Keegan Bradley, C. Bezuidenhout, Davis Thompson, Ricky Castillo, Rasmus Hojgaard.

None of these 5 played.

MY WINNER Morikawa’s game best suited for Sawgrass and he has been in top 10 last 4 events. Aberg, Young or Lee my next 3, I don’t think Bhatia will have a good tournament and finish outside top 10. Rory and Scottie will not be in contention.

The 17th 137 yard hole is one of the most famous par 3’s on tour along with #7 at Pebble Beach, #12 at The Masters and #16 at The Waste Management. It is an island green and a constant threat for balls in the water, the record is 93 in 2007.
