HISTORY

The Renaissance Club opened in 2007 and by UK standards is a very young course. St Andrews Old Course opened in 1895. It is located between Muirfield & Berwick who together have hosted 26 OPEN Championships. Scottsman Robert MacIntyre won last year shooting 67 and playing the last 4 holes-4. Ludvig Aberg led by 2 after RD 3, but had 3 bogies on the back 9 on the final RD for 73 and finished 4th.

MY PREDICTION

Robert MacIntyre is a 26 year old Scottish golfer who plays on the DP&PGA Tours. He is a risky pick, as it is unusual to repeat, as we saw last week when Davis Thompson faded in the final RD. However this year MacIntyre has 4 top 10’s including #2 at the US Open & #9 at The Players, however missed the cut at the Masters & 47th at the PGA. He knows this course, winning last year and finishing 2nd to Rory in 2023 losing by 1 stroke, after his 1st birdie in 33 holes at the 16th in the final RD. With this being right Before THE OPEN, he may be the most motivated and repeat in his home country.

FAVORITES

S Scheffler 3.4/1 Never bet against him, I think he will be more focused on The OPEN.

2 R McIlroy 6.5 /1 Same as Scottie.

3 X Schauffele 18/1 Won this, his 2nd major, in 2022 but I don’t think he is 100%.

4 T Fleetwood 22/1 Still looking for his first PGA win, maybe this one.

5 Morikawa 25/1 He should finish in the top 5 but again his putting will prevent a win.

6 L Aberg 25/1 Not playing great this year and like last year usually has 1 bad RD.

7 R MacIntyre 30/1 While it is difficult, I think he repeats with great betting odds.

8 J Thomas 30/1 Has 7 top 10’s this year including win at Heritage, he could sneak in.

9 V Hovland 30/1 Up & down year but win at Valspar, #2 US Open,.

10 A Burns 40/1 He just doesn’t seem to close well.

LONG SHOTS

1 Adam Scott 50/1 At 44, 24 years as a pro, finished 2nd last year with a bogie on 15.

2 SJ Im 75/1 Also had a chance to win last year, 3 bogies on final RD costly.

3 Maverick McNealy 80/1 Five top 10’s this year and has been knocking on the door.

4 Ryan Fox 65/1 & Rasmus Hojgaard 90/1 are 2 XDP players now on the PGA Tour.

There are 72 current DP players in the tournament, none of whom I think can win. I picked these 2 with DP experience to have the best chance.

5 J Knapp 100/1 The longest shot of the group, almost shot 59 at Rocket Classic(61).

COMMENTARY

Tournament has 2nd strongest field this year and will be a great preview for next weeks OPEN.

I don’t see any surprises and 1 of the top 10 should win, but a chance for the 6 long shots.
