HISTORY

Detroit Golf Club opened in 1899 and will host the tournament for the 7th time.

It is the flattest course on the PGA Tour. Cam Davis got his 1st PGA win here in 2021, and in 2024 he defeated Akshay Bhatia, who missed a 3’ putt on 18.

It was only his 2nd bogie of the tournament. In 2023 Rickie Fowler made

2 outstanding shots on the 1st playoff to defeat Colin Morikawa & Adam Hadwin.

FAVORITES These are the oddsmakers top 10. With a field like this anyone could win and I find it impossible to pick one winner.

Colin Morikawa 12/1He has shown signs of excellence but still can’t close.

Keegan Bradley 16/1 No way he should have won last week, but 2 great putts.

Patrick Cantlay 18/1 Still can’t put 4 good RDs together.

Ben Griffiin 22/1 Should be the favorite, if anyone in this group wins its him.

Cameron Young 28/1 Played well last week but never in contention.

Hidekia Matsuyama 30/1 No way!!!

Harry Hall 30/1 always seems to play well but not well enough to win.

SW Kim 35/1 Always finds a way to lose.

Keith Mitchell 35/1 If a tournament was 36 holes he would have at least 2 wins.

Max Greyserman 35/1 He just can’t seem put 4 good RDs together.

My Long Shots None have won lately, but I don’t think anyone from the top 10 will win.

1 Rickie Fowler 40/1 Last win was here in 2023, played well at Schwab & Memorial.

2 Jake Knapp 80/1 Last tournament Canadian Open was in hunt until final RD.

3 Akshay Bhatia 45/1 If he plays as well as he did last year maybe he wins this time.

A few others; Luke Clanton 40/1, Matt Fitzpatrick 50/1, Davis Riley 90/1.

COMMENTARY

James Piot is playing under a sponsor exemption. He was top Amateur in 2021 and signed a contract with LIV for a reported $6M. He was dropped from LIV in 2023. This Fall he will head to Qualifying School in a bid to earn status on the Korn Ferry Tour and eventually the PGA. I will be highlighting him this week as it may signal a way for LIV players to play in PGA events. LIV has no Fall season and it could be a great shot in the arm for PGA Fall events.
