Blog#251B Results US Open June 17, 2025
ROUND 3 Weather Light rain off and on 71* Wind 2-6 MPH
Listed are the 4 leaders and only golfers-par. Also 13 of the most popular and those expected to win. After RD 2 I picked Sam Burns, and if he continues to putt as well as he has, should be the winner. Other picks were Kopek and Hovland.
Ortez and Scott had the lowest RDs at 67 and Hatton got into contention with 68.
I don’t think Ortez or Scott can win but Hatton may sneak in. However I will stick with my Friday pick and feel Burns has bounced back so well to the disappointment of losing the Canadian Open, he should win.
1 S Burns-4 69 Birdies #17 to go to-4.
2 JJ Spaun-3 69 Also birdies 17 to maintain tie for lead, but bogies 18.
2 A Scott-3 67 Birdies 3 of last 6 holes to move up 2 spots.
4 V Hovland-1 70 Starts and finishes with bogies to drop a spot.
5 C Ortiz E 67 Would have had bogie free low RD if not for bogie on18, up 7 spots.
6 T Hatton+1 68 Most birdies of the day spoiled by DB on #15.
11 B Griffin+4 74 Was in the mix until +4 last 5 holes.
11 M Greyersman+4 71 Should not be in this group 4 bogies front 9, 3 birdies back.
11 S Scheffler+4 70 No sub par RDs yet, disappointing tournament.
21 K Bradley+5 72 All pars front 9, four bogies back.
21 B Koepka+5 73 Only 1 birdie to go with 4 bogies, 1 on #18.
21 J Day+5 72 After low RD of 67 in RD2, starts with bogie then 3 more.
29 J Spieth+6 71 Triple bogie on #15 with 2 bogies 4 birdies.
35 J Rahm+7 73 DP Another poor performance at a major. LIV has hurt his game.
39 P Reed+8 71 Fourteen bogies 1 DB, 1 3XB to go with an albatross on #4 RD1.
49 R McIlroy+10 74 Six bogies total 11 for tournament with 3 DBs
FINAL ROUND Cloudy 71 to 79* no rain or wind.
1 JJ Spaun-1 72 Makes a long putt on 14 for the lead and then a 65’ on 18 to win $4.3M

3 Viktor Hovland+2 73 Five bogies, 17 for tournament & 1DB to Spahn’s 14 bogies. $1.5M

COMMENTARY
JJ Spaun After starting with 5 bogies on his first 6 holes it looked like Spaun was out of the tournament at +3. His remarkable back 9, after the rain delay, was highlighted by birdies on 12 and 14, the latter giving him a 1 stroke lead. He bogied 15 resulting in a 5 way tie at +1 but then birdied 17&18 for a 2 stroke win.
Sam Burns misses opportunity to win for the 2nd straight week. Hope he can win this year.
Oakmont All the talking heads raved about how tough the course was, which it was only 1 player breaking par, but the rain soaked final 9 holes on Sunday and the treacherous greens, I wonder what the players really think.
