Torrey Pines South Course La Jolla, CA

Feb 13-16, 2025 Par 72

Purse $20M same as last year

HISTORY

Tiger Woods is the host and intended to play but withdrew earlier this week.

The course is usually held at Riviera C.C. in Palisades CA but was changed

Torrey Pines was the site of The Farmers 2 weeks ago when players played both the North and South Course and the winner was Harris English.

FAVORITES 8 of top 11 OWGR are playing only X. Schauffele #2 (injury) and #8 Tyrell Hatton & #11 Bryson DeChambeau#10 (LIV) are absent.  I will be surprised if one of the top 10 does not win.

1 Scottie Scheffler 3.5/1 Had a bad final 9 holes last week and did not win until  the Arnold Palmer in March of 2024.

2 Rory McIlroy 7/1 If he plays as well as he did to win Pebble Beach he wins.

3 Collin Morikawa 14/1 Putting still to inconsistent he won’t win but top 10.

4 H. Matsuyama 22/1 He won this last year and Sentry this year.

5 Ludvig Aberg 25/1 Been sick for last few tournaments maybe its his time.

6 Justin Thomas 25/1 Unlike Scheffler he had a strong finish last week.

7 SJ Im 30/1 Seems to always be in top 5 or 10 but never a threat to win.

8 Patrick Cantlay 33/1 I don’t think his game is consistent enough to win.

9 Tom Kim 33/1 He can’t go thru a tournament without 1 RD with 4 bogies.

10 Jordan Spieth 40/1 Played well last week 4th, but clutch putting a problem.

#1, #2, #3, #5, #6, #8, #9 in top 10 last year, only 3 finished in the top10.

MY WINNER  Justin Thomas has played better each week and continues to reduce bogies. If he gets off to a great start and can keep it going  he wins.

LONG-SHOTS In the first 6 tournaments only 2 have been won by favorites.

Other possibilities;

Wyndham Clark 100/1 #1 last week after RD1, 5 bogies in RD2.

Harris English 60/1 Won at Torrey Pines 3 weeks ago, can he win again?

Billy Horschel 120/1 Has a solid game but not good enough with this field.

Daniel Berger 100/1 Finished 2nd last week after being #16 after 1st RD.

Rasmus Højgaard 50/1 Looked like a winner 1st 9 last week but faded.

COMMENTARY

It will be interesting how the tournament goes.  They will play the South Course at Torrey Pines which they played 3 weeks ago.  For the Farmers, they played both the North and the South courses, South being more difficult.

Sam Stevens 2nd 80/1, Andrew Novack 3rd (120/1) and Sungas IM 4th (30/1) played very well and could be sleepers to win.
