209 AT&T Pebble Beach Pro Am

#209 AT&T Pebble Beach Pro Am

Pebble Beach & Spyglass, CA

Jan 30-Feb 2, 2025 Par 72

Purse $20M same as last year

HISTORY

Started in 1937 as the Bing Crosby Clambake.  It became a signature event last year but the final  RD was canceled due to bad weather and unplayable conditions.  Wyndham Clark shot a course record 60 on RD 3 and defeated Ludvig Aberg by 1 stroke as weather shortened the event to 54 holes.  Scottie Scheffler will make his first start, coming back from a hand injury at Christmas.  Tournament will be played at Pebble Beach & Spyglass, which is the more difficult course.  Amateurs will play in the 1st 2 RDs only with no cut.

FAVORITES

1 Scottie Scheffler 4/1 He may be rusty and not completely healed from his hand injury.

2 Rory McIlroy 11/1 His 1st PGA start, he had a strong Rd 4 in Dubai to finish 4th.

3 Justin Thomas 14/1 Finished 6th last year and 2nd at Am. Exp. this year with 66 on RD4.

4 Colin Morikawa 14/1 Finished 2nd at Sentry has not played since, well rested.

5 Ludvig Aberg 18/1 Led after RD1 last week but virus issues may have caused 42nd finish.

6 Patrick Cantlay 20/1 Poor start at American Express but strong finish for 5th place.

7 Hideki Matsuyama 25/1 Won Sentry with record-35, 16th at Sony, 32nd at Farmers.

8 SJ Im 28/1  Seems to always be in the top 10 but can’t finish, maybe this week.

9 Tommy Fleetwood 33/1 Still looking for his 1st PGA win, probably not this week.

10 Jason Day 40/1 Played well in the Fall and had a great 2nd RD 69 at Farmers last week.

11 Viktor Hovland 40/1 Game going downhill since winning BMW&Tour Championship in 2023.

MY WINNER  Its difficult to pick anyone other than Scottie Scheffler, see issues above.

It is a signature event with a very good field of the top 80 golfers and the winner gets $3.6M.

One of the top 10 favorites should win and I am going with Colin Morikawa.

If his putting is on he wins unless Scheffler is 100% healthy, then he may still win.

MY LONG-SHOTS WIN I think 1 of these 4 could win, but with this field anyone could.

45/1 Wyndham Clark Came out of nowhere last year and shot 60 on RD 3 to win.

45/1 Jordan Spieth had wrist surgery and if that straightens out his driving he has a chance.

70/1 Max Greyserman played well at Sentry except for final RD dropping from 6 to 42nd.

90/1 Tom Hoge Defeated Jordan Spieth by 2 strokes here in 2022 and had a pretty good 2024.
