Blog #188 Butterfield Bermuda  Championship

Port Royal GC Nov 15-17,2924

Par 71 Purse $6.9M+$400K 6%

HISTORY This is the 7th and next to last of the Fall tournaments.  It is another sub par field and has to compete with the DP World Tour Championship in Dubai with its largest purse

$10M compared this tournaments $6.9M.  Last year Camilo Villegas got his first win in 9 years by defeating Alex Noran, who led for 3 RDs, by 2 strokesVillegas was a 110/1 shot and I picked him as a good bet with those odds.  Two bogies on 9&10 cost Noran the victory.  Seamus Powers won in 2022 but did not play last year.

As you can see by the favorites this is a very weak field.  I think some unknown will win.

FAVORITES

1 Seamus Power 16/1 He is #54 FedX Cup and 116 OWGR so his chances as good as anyone,

2 McKenzie Hughes 16/1 Finished 8 at Sanderson in his only Fall event, can’t see him winning.

3 Patrick Rogers 20/1 Always a favorite with this type of field but has not won yet.

4 Maverick McNealy 20/1 Played well last week and finished 6th.  He could win.

5 Justin Lower 20/1 Led after RD 3 last week and finished 2nd but never really in it.

6 Ben Griffin 20/1 He has had a good year and may win soon.

7 Doug Ghim 22/1 Had 1 bad RD at Shriners and could have won but finished 2nd.

8 Lucas Glover 28/1 Strong final RD at Black Desert and finished 3rd.

9 Matti Schmidt 28/1 Missed cut last week.

10 Sam Stevens 28/1 FedX #96 OWGR 126 and he is in the top 10?

MY LONGSHOTS

Carson Young 40/1 With these odds he my be the best bet.  Could have won last week.

Joey Highsmith 40/1 He seems to get better each week, left hander wears a bucket hat.

Henrik Norlander 65/1

David Lipsky 110/1 A REAL longshot but he occasionally plays very well, it could be this week.

DP WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP

Jumeirah Golf Estates Dubai Nov 14-17     PAR 72 Purse $10M last 3 years

HISTORY This is the final DP tournament of the year and two awards will be decided:

1) The Race to Dubai Crown will be awarded and Rory McIlroy is in the drivers seat to capture his 3rd crown with 4,997 points.  Seve Ballesteros is the leader with 6.

2) The DP world Championship tournament which McIlroy won in 2015.  Jon Rahm is not playing but he won in 2017, 2019 & 2022.  Last years winner was Nicolai Hojgaard.

FAVORITES I feel that one of these 5 will win, my pick is Nieman.

1 Rory McIlroy 4/1 Last won this tournament in 2015 and has played 11 DP events this year.

2 Tyrrell Hatton 6/1 Third on the LIV $ list for 2924.  Came in 2nd in Abu Dhabi.

3 Tommy Fleetwood 8/1 No PGA wins but 7 DP wins and finished 6th last week.

4 Joaquin Niemann 11/1 Second to Jon Rahm in $ won on LIV 2024.

5 Shane Lowry 5/1 If his game is on he can beat anyone.

LONGSHOTS The rest of the field qualifies as longshots, maybe 1 of these 5 may win.

1 Min Woo Lee 22/1 Everyone expects him to win a big tournament, this may be it.

2 Robert MacIntyre 20/1 Had a good year on both tours, won Scottish Open PGA/DP event.

3 Thriston Lawrence 30/1 He is ranked #2, 1785 points behind McIlroy in the Race to Dubai.

4 Justin Rose 45/1 In the twilight of his career but has had some good moments this year.

5 Paul Waring 60/1 Unexpected winner of the Abu Dhabi last week at 39.
