Preview Procore Championship

Silverado Resort N Course Napa

Purse $6 LY $8.4M- $2.4M 30%

Sept 12-15, 2024 Par 72

HISTORY

This is the first event of the fall season formally called the Fortinet Championship. Purse has been reduced and it is the first reduction since LIV started and may be a sign of the future.

Sahith Theegala won last year for his 1st PGA win and is favored this year.  He or Wyndham Clark are the best 2 players in the field and one of them should win.  However this is an event that anyone could win and secure a position for the 2025 season.  The top 6 favorites are also the only players of the 24 who will be playing in the Presidents Cup from Sept 26 to 29.

FAVORITES

1 Sahith Theegala 9/1 His 1st win last year and finished 3rd at Tour Championship this year.

2 Wyndham Clark 12/1 Played all 3 Tour Champion events and finished strong.

3 Corey Conners 16/1 Always seems to be picked in top 10 and makes it about 1/2 the time.

4 Min Woo Lee 20/1 A good player but not a consistent winner.

5 Max Homa 22/1 Why he got picked for Presidents is a mystery.  He has been awful lately.

6 Maverick McNealy 22/1 He has had a good year but has yet to win.

7 Luke Clanton 22/1 He has been outplaying the pros as an amateur in last few months.

8 JJ Span 28/1 Shows how weak the field is, he is a B player at his best.

9 Keith Mitchel 30/1 Tons of potential but has not been playing with the elite.

10 Harris English 33/1 Has had injury problems and will be trying to get his game back this fall.

LONGSHOTS As with most of these tournaments, usually  someone comes out of nowhere to win.  I am going to pick those whom I feel have the best shot;

1 Mackenzie Hughes 55/1 He was picked for Presidents Cup over higher ranked, McNealy and Nick Taylor and has something to prove.

2 Nick Taylor 66/1 Like Hughes he may have something to prove.

3 Lucus Glover 80/1 He won the Wyndham & St Jude back to back last year to get into the Tour Championship but has not won in 2024.  He will be looking to win this Fall.

4 Neal Shipley 75/1 He was #1 amateur at Ohio State and turned pro in mid season.

5 Matt Kucher 50/1 Seems to play in all of these secondary tournaments, may win one soon.

COMMENTARY

Another more interesting tournament is the DP World tour Amgen Irish Open being played at Royal County Down GC, Northern Ireland.  It is one of the finest courses in the world.

The field includes Rory McIlroy, Shane Lowry,  Padraig Harrington, Seamus Power,

Robert MacIntyre, Luke Donald, and last year’s winner Sweden’s Vincent Norman.

We will post Rd by RD coverage of both tournaments in the results blog.
