Blog#140 PGA Championship

May 16-19 2024

Valhalla GC Louisville KY Par 71

Purse $17.5M Same was last year

HISTORY

Of the 156 players scheduled to be in the field 16 are from LIV.  Last years winner was Brooks Koepka-9 at Oak Hill CC in Rochester NY with Viktor Hovland & Scottie Scheffler 2nd-7.  Hovland was in the final RD with Koepka, double bogied 16 and  lost by 2 strokes.  Scheffler shot a 73 in RD 3 while Koepka shot a 66.  This is the 4th time Valhalla has hosted this Championship, 1996, 2000 and 2014 won by Rory McIlroy his last Major win.

FAVORITES The way the top 3 have been playing I don’t see anyone else winning.

Scottie Scheffler 3/1 Since he has gotten his putting back wins Players, Masters, Heritage.

Rory McIlroy 6/1 Final RD at Wells Fargo unbelievable 8 under from #8 to #15 to win by 5.

Brooks Keopka 10/1 Won his 4th LIV event in Singapore and has won PGA 3 times.

OTHER FAVORITES

Xander Schauffele 12/1 No way, after meltdown last week in RD4 shoots 71 with 4 bogies.

Ludvig Aberg 12/1 He dropped out last week, maybe getting ready for this big one.

Joh Rahm 14/1 Always a threat but since LIV his game has been? #45-9 at Masters.

Joaquin Niemann 25/1 Like Aberg a good young player who has a chance.

Collin Morikawa 25/1  Faded again last week in 4th RD and finished #16.

Bryson DeChambeau 25/1 Playing well on LIV, could sneak in for a win.

Wyndham Clark 25/1 finished #47 last week all 4 RDs over par.

SUPER LONGSHOTS None have a chance to win just some fun names hope all make the cut.

Jason Day 50/1 & Ben An 60/1 Both gave super efforts last week and have played well all year.

Denny McCarthy 125/1 Made some incredible putts last week and finished a respectable #6-5.

Jake Knapp 125/1 2 tough DBs last week, game & style compared to the great Payne Stewart.

Eric Cole 200/1 Rookie of the year at 34, last place+18 at Wells Fargo, he is better than that.

Michael Block 750/1 Head Pro at Arroyo Traduce GC CA, finished 15th to qualify this year.

John Daly150/1 Two majors PGA in 1991 & The OPEN 1995.  One of my favorites.

Chris Gotterup N/O He won the first Myrtle Beach Classic same week as the Wells Fargo.

Pictured is the par 5 18th hole “Photo Finish” has large fairway bunkers left of the landing zone and water on the right.  Most players can reach in 2 but there are bunkers in front and to the left of the green shaped like a horseshoe as a reminder of Kentucky’s horse tradition.  One of the easier holes look for birdies especially from Rory.
