BLOG#136 CJ Cup Byron Nelson
TPC Craig Ranch McKinny TX
May 2-5, 2023 Par 72
Purse $9.5M same as last year
HISTORY
As last year when the tournament was the AT&T Byron Nelson there are 156 players.
Despite the limited field they usually draw between 35,000 & 45,000 per day. With all that is going on between PGA & LIV it will be interesting to see what kind of turnout they get.
Jordan Spieth won in 2022 and placed 2nd by 1 stroke in 2021.
FAVORITES. With this field I see only 2 who qualify for being called favorites.
Jordan Spieth 16/1 His game has been sporadic but if he can stay away from bogies he wins.
Jason Day 18/1 Last year broke a tie with Scottie Scheffler on 14 and won by 1 stroke.
Will Zalatoris 22/1 Missed cut at Zurich, #44 at Heritage. Withdrew due to back issues.
Missed most of last year due to surgery says he is recuperating well and just needs rest.
LONGSHOTS
Si Woo Kim 20/1 Has not won since the January 2023 at the Sony.
Adam Scott 22/1 At 43 he plays in many tournaments and is dangerous with a field like this.
Alex Noran 25/1 Turned pro in 2005 with no PGA wins but again in top 5 to win.
Sungjae Im 28/1 He has not won since Shriners in Oct 2021, plays a lot and is due.
Tom Kim 40/1 When will this guy have 4 good RDs and live up to his 2022 numbers?
K.H. Lee 45/1 He won back to back in 2020/2021, with these odds may be a great bet.
Seamus Power 66/1 Played well at Heritage maybe luck of the Irish after McIlroy/Lowry.
Patrick Fishburn 200/1 He and partner Zac Blair(275/2) were 1st after RD3 at Zurich.
Nick Watney He will replace Will Zaalatoris. Lets see how he does
This tournament may not have the best field but the Choctaw Club on the 13th tee and 16th green may be an atmosphere unlike anything in golf. There is patio with views of the 13th tee and 16th green an air conditioned 8,000 square’ oasis with blackjack, crap table, live DJ, a full bar and a buffet catered by III Forks, one of the finest steak restaurants in Dallas.
Tickets are $500 per day Thursday and Friday, $550 Saturday and Sunday.
Very nice way to attend a PGA event.
