Charlie Hoffman asked Tiger to grant him an exemption for the tournament but was turned down because the 5 exemptions were filled with Tiger, Adam Scott, Will Zalatoris, Gary Woodland, Chase Johnson.(Sifford). He finished tied for 1st at the Waste Management but lost in a playoff, but he earned his way in.  There will be 70 players with a cut of 20 or less.

ROUND 3 Weather overcast, no sun, cooler 57*.

Cantlay only one of the 10 favorites in top 10, only Thomas missed the cut. With a 5 stroke lead and none of the top 10 within striking distance, it is now Cantlay’s to lose, which he did!  He was in contention for the past 3 tournaments and faded on last 2 RDs.

1 Patrick Cantlay-14 70 Birdies 1st hole, then 2 bogies, 2 birdies rest of was, worse Rd yet.

2 Xander Schauffle-12 65 Bogie free RD, eagles 1st hole, then 4 birdies on back 9.

2 Will Zalatoris-12 65 One bogie, 7 birdies, low Rd with Schauffle, English & Cole.

4 Luke List-11 68 Hanging in there with 3 RDs under 70, birdies 3 of last 6 holes.

7 Hideki Matsuyama-8 68 One bogie 4 birdies, 2 on last 2 holes, best 3 Rds in a long time.

10 Mckenzie Hughes Birdies 1st hole, but average RD with 2 bogies to drop 8 spots.

FINAL ROUND Weather cloudy, wind 3 to 5MPH 63*

Best friends Cantlay and Schauffele are last group in the final round as Schauffele makes up 5 strokes to reach 2nd place.  This is what the signature events wanted.  However they were never in the mix as Luke List took an early lead after 3 holes, then Matsuyama took over.

Matsuyama had a bogie and DB on 12 & 13 in the 1st RD of 69.

Rd 2 he bogies 8 then eagles 11 for another 68 in RD 3 which put him 6 shots behind.

His final RD was bogie free to gain a record setting win.
