#114 Waste Management  Phoenix Open

#114 Waste Management  Phoenix Open

TPC Scottsdale AZ Feb 8-11 2024 Par 71

Purse $9M-11M 55%

FIRST ROUND INTERRUPTED BY BAD WEATHER AND COMPLETED FRIDAY

HISTORY Last year this was a signature event won by Scottie Scheffler for the 2nd year in a row.  It has a field of 80 and draws over 200,000 people per day.  It will be interesting to see if not being one of the signature events will effect attendance.  It is a slightly weaker field but not by much.  5 of the top 10 and 34 of the top 50 are playing.

FAVORITES

1 Scottie Scheffler 4.5/1 If he doesn’t improve his putting he won’t win.

2 Justin Thomas 10/1 Playing well, he may be the best bet and could get back into the top 50.

3 Max Homa 16/1 He has not gotten his game has not been there yet this year.

4 Sam Burns 18/1 Has played well this year, may sneak out a win.

5 Jordan Spieth 18/1 Same as Burnes.

6 Min Woo Lee 25/1 Has played well, but not ready to win yet.

7 Byeong Hun An 25/1 Has played well and is usually  in the running, but can’t seem to finish.

8 Matt Fitzpatrick 28/1 same as An.

9 J.T. Poston 28/1 When he is on he is very good but can’t seem to put 4 good RDs together.

10 Wyndham Clark 30/1 I don’t see him having the kind of RD as #3 last week to win.

LONGSHOTS

Kevin Yu Finished 6th at Farmers and 3rd at American Express, could be a good bet.

Eric Cole 40/1 He has to get a win soon, 2023 rookie of the year at 32.

Beau Hossler 45/1 This guy is all potential and has had good flashes this year.

Thomas Detry 60/1 Led at Pebble Beach and contended Farmers, another good bet.

Taylor Montgomery 110/1Has been in contention in a tournaments lately, big longshot.

SPECIAL INFORMATION

The 16th hole a par 3 163’ is the famous stadium hole which seats 17,000 and is very roudy.  It is a unique setting for the PGA which LIV has tried to duplicate with their format, but 1 hole a year is entertaining, but enough.  It is pictured below and a must watch.  The crowed goes wild with a hole in 1.  None last year but 2 from Sam Ryder and Carlos Ortiz in 2022.  This year Ryder is 180/1 & Ortiz is playing for LIV and finished #43 winning $126,000 in last weeks tournament in Mexico.
