BLOG #113 Feb 5, 2024 PGA agreement with Strategic Sports Group & LIV Mayakoba MX
ITEM#29 2024 PGA/PIF/LIV
LIV MAYAKOBA FEB 2 TO 4, 2024
ITEM #29 Jan 30, 2924 Jay Monahan revels to players that the PGA has reached an agreement with the Strategic Sports Group (see Item Dec 1 to 31 #25). They will invest $3 Billion into the new PGA Enterprise. There are still negotiations going on to have PIF become an investor for about the same amount. The question now is, does the PGA Enterprise need this money? There is a feeling that a unified LIV/PSA/DP World Tours would bring all the top golfers together. With the outstanding performances in Fall and January by lesser known golfers in PGA events, does the PGA really need any LIV players other than their top 5? Are these 5 J.Rahm, C. Smith, D. Johnson, B. Koepka, B. De Chambeau that important? Do we care about Mickelson, Bubba Watson, Sergio Garcia and the other 40 or 50 LIV players? The LIV format is unwatchable as I have said before. Their first tournament covered below did not offer any TV coverage for their first round. With the beautiful scenery at Pebble Beach, and a star studded field, what tournament do you think the majority of golf fans watching?
ITEM #30 FIRST ROUND No TV coverage so no one saw this RD and Niemann’s 59.
1 Joaquin Niemann-12 59 One eagle 10 birdies no bogies, he was given a 2 stroke penalty.
#12 Kieran Vincent-2 69 signees for Rahm’s team
2 Patrick Reed-7 64
3 Sergio Garcia-6 65
4 Jon Rahm-5 66, 4 Richard Bland-5 66, 4 Laurie Canter-5 66
12 Kieran Vincent-2 69 Joined Rahm’s team.
32 Tyrell Hatton +1 72 Joined Rahm’s team.
26 Caleb Surratt E 71 Joined Rahm’s team
SECOND ROUND Watched some coverage which is awful. Constant music so distracting.
Announcers sound like cheerleaders instead of describing the play. Shorts and uniforms so unprofessional. They pay more attention to the team standings than the individual pones.
#1 Jpaquin Niemann-12, 2 Sergio Garcia & Dean Burmester-10, 4 Jon Rahm & B Koepka-9
FINAL ROUND Due the weather postponement of AT&T, I decided to watch LIV.
I could only watch it for about 1/2 hour, TV graphic showed team standings only.
Their emphasis on team play is to promote their product and for me it does not work.
Nieman won $4M defeating Garcia for his first LIV win with a birdie on the 4th hole.
Rahm bogeyed the last 2 holes. I wonder if he tanked so that Garcia could get his first win? The money is good, the product is not very entertaining.
Jon Rahm’s LIV Team won team competition. Who cares?
Players & backgrounds
Jon Rahm OWGR 3 Signed with LIV on December 8, 2023 for between $450 & $600M. It was a huge signing by LIV, but negated by amateur Nick Dunlap signing with PGA and the agreement with Strategic Sports Group.

Tyrell Hatton OWGR 16paid between $50M & $66M to join LIV twice as much as he earned in 13 years on PGA Tour. An interesting player with only 1 PGA win. I am happy for his big payday, but he will not be missed
