Pebble Beach & Spyglass PAR 72
Feb 1-4, 2024
Purse $20M up $11M+55%
HISTORY This tournament was started by Bing Crosby in 1937 as the Crosby Clambake. He was a golf enthusiast and felt bringing celebrities into a tournament would increase interest in professional golf. In 1977 Crosby died at 73 from a massive heart attack after completing a round of golf in Madrid. It is said his last words were; “That was a great game of golf fellas. Lets go have a Coca-Cola”. Even though Pebble Beach is the most famous course, Spyglass is the most difficult. Some changes have been made due to disinterest by many top players. It’s now a signature event. Only 2 courses will be used and amateurs will in only the first 2 rounds. Last year’s winner Justin Rose had a much weaker field.

Xander Schauffele 14/1 Has played well this year, but must play better to win.
Patrick Cantlay 16/1 His iron play has been below his best since the Ryder Cup.

Pictured below is the famous Par 3 7th. But #8,9&10 are the most difficult, and golf architect Tom Doak wrote “If 8,9&10 were the closing holes, it would be the most famous finish in golf.
