HISTORY

Torrey Pines is a municipal course owned by the city of San Diego.  There are 156 players in the field.  Both Nick Dunlap and Justin Thomas, both Alabama University players withdrew. Nick Dunlap withdrew to return to Alabama and celebrate his victory at the American Express.  There is speculation that he will turn pro with either the PGA or LIV.  It is reported LIV offered him $25M.  He would have to win 2 majors or signature events to earn $7M on the PGA. The tournament runs from Wednesday through Saturday so as not to be competing for TV time with the 2 NFL Championship games.  The first 2 RDs split between both courses with the final 2 Rds on the South course which usually plays 3 or 4 strokes harder than the North.

FAVORITES

Xander Schauffele 10/1 I picked him to win, which I did last week and he finished a strong 3rd.

Patrick Cantlay 11/1 Started well last week in 5th place after RD 1, but then faded.

Max Homa 12/1 Won last year after being down 5 in the final RD, but its tough to repeat.

Collin Morikawa 12/1 Third last year, and top 5 for the first 2 Rds of the Sentry, but faded.

Ludvig Aberg 19/1 He has had 2 bad tournaments in a row.  He may be a little worn out.

LONGSHOTS

#1 Keegan Bradley 30/1 Finished 2nd last year and has to be upset by blowing the Sentry

#2 Jason Day 27/1 He won in 2015 & 2018, and finished 3rd in 2022.

#3 Eric Cole 37/1 Rookie of the year at 32 years old, and due for his first win.

#4 Christian Bezuidenhout 75/1 and Kevin Yu 120/1.  Finished 2nd & 3rd last week.

#5 Carl Yuan 225/1 Worth a $10 bet.  He was 1st in the 2nd Rd of The Sony, finished 4th.

SPECIAL INFORMATION SEVENTH HOLE

The 7th hole par 4 is considered the hardest.  In the 2008 US Open Tiger woods defeated Rocco Mediate on the 19th hole of their Monday playoff.  It was the last time the US Open would have an 228 hole playoff.  Woods forced the playoff by making a 12’ putt on #18 after he overcame a 5 stroke deficit with 6 holes to play.  It was his 14th major and he would not win another for 11 years when he won the 2019 Masters.
