#19 November 14, 2023
Golf digest and Golf Channel report that Jay Monahan sent a memo to PGA players on Tuesday November 14th stating that his focus remains “toward a definitive agreement with PIF and the DP World Tour as our priority.” He says that “progress has been deliberate given the complex nature of the potential agreement, and we will keep you appraised of the progress”. It has been reported that several US companies have shown an interest in providing financial backing for the PGA Tour. It is unclear if this backing would be an alternative to PIF’s support or to supplement it in order to appease U.S. antitrust regulations. Sounds like Monahan is buying time and in reality an agreement is very much in doubt. It appears that 2024 will be a repeat of 2023, as reported on September 26, 2023 blog#10. PGA with 36 events and LIV with 14 events detailed on blogs #2 & #7, still available.
