#6 PGA/DP WORLD Tour/LIV/PIF 2024

Butterfield Bermuda Championship

Port Royal GC Southampton BMU

Nov 9 -12,2023 Par71

Purse $6.5M same as last 2 years

This is the 5th year for this event and is a bottom tier event from a strength of field standpoint.  The field of 132 is stronger than last year with 9 players inside OWGR compared to 4 last year.  Last years winner was Seamus Power is not in the field, the Irish singing group “Dropkick Murphys” wrote a song honoring his win.

Action Sports FAVORITES

Adam Scott 17/1 He just keeps playing, may win this one best player in field.

Akshay Bhatia  19/1he may get his first win but he is very inconsistent.

Brendon Todd 19/1 Won this tournament in 2019 at 38 running out of time.

Thomas Derry 19/1He was the favorite last year and finished 2nd by 1 stroke.

Lucas Grover 22/1 was a favorite last week but did not match his play of last Aug/Sept.

Lucas Herbert 22/1 Australian won here in 2021, highest finish in fall 20 at Shriners.

Alex Noren 24/1  Swedish plays most of DP Tour, 10 wins age 41 with no PGA wins.

Stewart Cink 45/1 at age 50 he plays on both Championship and PGA Tour in 2023.

Camilo Villegas 110/1 If he can match his play finishing 2nd last week, may be a great bet.

Harry Higgs 200/1 still one of my favorites but he always seem to have at least 1 very bad RD.

Jason Dufner 200/1 at 46 approaching the end of his career but plays a lot of golf.

Hard to pick a winner but out should come from these 7.

#16 NOVEMBER 7, 2023 PGA/DP Tour/LIV/PIF Information

Joe Ogilvie is a retired professional golfer who played from 1999 to 2014, most of the time on the PGA tour.  He is 49 years old, a graduate of Duke and owns an investment advisory firm.  He sent a letter on October 30 to as many PGA players and directors as he could.  He got into detail as to the negative effects of a merger with PIF, and some of the financial consequences.  If you subscribe to twitter (X) I highly recommend that you read it.  While I found the details very complicated, he brings up financial points that have not been addressed before and he seems to strongly feel that this merger would have severe consequences on the current financial situation of the PGA.

In 2022 the PIF put $2 billion into professional golf and he feels that with a merger they would expect to gain a large profit from their investment.  In short the current makeup of the PGA could be changed with the negative consequences.  While my interpretation of the letter may not be completely accurate, it does indicate that any future agreement would come with serious changes to the current status of the PGA.
