WENTWORTH BMW CHAMPIONSHIP RESULTS SEPTEMBER 14 TO 17, 2003

WENTWORTH BMW CHAMPIONSHIP RESULTS SEPTEMBER 14 TO 17, 2003

All 12 European Ryder Cup members are playing in 4 threesome’s.  Like many of my readers I know very little about the DP World Tour.  They do have some good players who also play on the PGA ( Adrian Meronk being 1). So I will give a brief profile as they advance.

FIRST ROUND

#1 Marcus Helligkilde-8 64 DEN 26 yrs old, No PGA events or DP wins.

#2 Richie Ramsay-6 66 SCO 40 yrs old, 4 DP wins.  Few PGA events, missed cuts.

#2 Matt Fitzpatrick-6 66 ENG He may win this one.

#4 Adrian Meronk-5 67 POL He was shocked by missing Ryder Cup, had 3 DP wins in 2023.

#12 Ludvig  Aberg-4 68 SWN I keep pumping this guy, but he is for real.  Watch out Ryder Cup.

#12 Tyrrell Hatton-4 68 ENG A very good player always in contention.

#21 Tommy Fleetwood ENG  He usually plays well in a DP event.

#21 Viktor Hovland NRW This is a warm up for Ryder Cup, not playing to win but to prepare!

#46 Jon Rahm-1 71 ESP Wanted Sergio on Ryder Cup, not playing his best golf.

#65 Rory McIlroy E 72 NI, He like many others is just warming up for Ryder Cup.

#65 Robert MacIntyre E 72 SCO.  He qualified for RC.  I think he will be a liability.

#111 Billy Horschel+3 75 USA He was one of my longshots.

SECOND ROUND 80 minute fog delay in AM forced some players to finish Saturday.

#1 Ludvig Alberg-10 66 SWD Birdies 16,17 & 18 to tie for lead.

#1 Sebastian Soderberg-10 64 SWD He eagles 18 to tie for the lead,

#2 Masahiro Kawamura-9 65 JAP Bogie free RD, only 1 bogie in 2 RDs.

#2 Adrian Meronk-9 At 40/1 He is my #1 longshot, should be on the Ryder Cup team.

#2 Tommy Fleetwood-9 66 ENG Again putting together two good RDs.

#10 Tyrrell Hatton-7 ENG Same as Fleetwood.

#16 Billy Horschel-6 63 Best RD of the day to climb 94 spots.

#16 Jon Rahm-6 67 Climbs 31 spots.

#61 Rory McIlroy-1 71 Birdies last hole to avoid being cut.

Cut is -1/ 11 of 12 Ryder Cup players made the cut.

#1 Aberg, #2 Fleetwood, #8 Straka #11 Hovland, Rahm #17 Lowry, Hojgaard, #24 Hatton

#28 Fitzpatrick, #46 Rose, McIlroy, Missed

#63 MacIntyre ( he had a few more points than Meronk for the last automatic spot, I still think he will hurt them in the Cup.

THIRD ROUND

#1 Ludvig Alberg-16 66 One eagle, 5 birdies and only 1 bogie in 3rd RD.

#2 Tommy Fleetwood-14 67 Again flirting with a win.

#4 Ryan Fox-13 66 NZL 36 yrs, 4 DP wins and has played in all 4 majors

#4 Aaron Rai-13 67 ENG birdied 18 to tie for 4th.

#5 Jon Rahm-12 66 He had 5 birdies in 6 holes from 3 to 8, then birdied 17 & 18.

Soderberg 79 & Kawamura 76 both had triple bogies to drop out of contention.

McIlroy 67 had 7 birdies an 2 bogies for his best RD yet.

FINAL ROUND Heavy rain caused poor conditions and a delay.

#1 Ryan Fox-18 After triple bogie on 3 he shoots-8 over next 15 holes $1.53M

#2 Tyrell Hatton-17 Had lead and lost it but birdied 18 for chance at tie $776.7K

#3 Aaron Rai-17 putt on 18 lipped off cup for a tie. $776.7K

#4 John Rahm-16 Un Rahm like 71 in 1st RD cost him a win. $450K

#6 Tommy Fleetwood-14 Even par, another top 10 but  no win finish. $315K

#7 Rory McIlroy-13 65 Improved his score in every RD. $232.2K

#10 Ludvig Aberg-12 76  He had 1 bogie and 2 double bogies on front 9 $161.3K

The European Ryder Cup team had 9 players finish in top 20.  It looks like a very competitive Ryder Cup and I think the European’s will win.
