BMW Championship
Wentworth Club Eng Sept 14 to 17
Surrey England Par 72
Purse $9M + $1M=11%
This is the third of the 5 Rolex Series events for the DP World Tour. Wentworth Club is located less than an hour from Central London. The final 2 RDs have been sold out, so this is one of the more important DP Tour events, and may be part of a new tournament set up as a result of the LIV/ PGA & DP agreement. It is notable that the purse is up to $9M high for DP Tour.
Last year’s winner was Shane Lowry who defeated Rahm & McIlroy by 1 stroke. LIV players were allowed to compete and Patrick Reed finished 5th with a closing RD of 63. Billy Horschel, the 2021 winner who will compete this year, had a confrontation with Ian Poulter about LIV players participating. The tournament was reduced to 54 holes as the first RD was suspended and the 2nd canceled as a tribute to Queen Elizabeth who died 9/15/23.
OPENING ROUND FAVORITES
#1 Rory McIlroy 7/1 If he is healthy my money is on him, did not play so well at Irish Open.
#2 Viktor Hovland 15/2 He is hot who knows maybe 3 in a row.
#3 Jon Rahm 8.5/1 Maybe a few week layoff will help his game.
#4 Matt Fitzpatrick 18/1 I think his game has been to up and down.
#5 Tommy Fleetwood 18/1 He has been very good then very bad, best will be top 10.
#6 Shane Lowry 20/1 Finished 3rd by 2 strokes in Irish Open.
#6 Tyrrell Hatton 20/1 Always nibbling at a win, but missed the cut at Irish Open.
#8 Ludvig Aberg 25/1 Look for him to be in the top 10. He will shine at Ryder Cup.
#8 Tom Kim 25/1 I don’t think he is ready to win yet.
