SEPTEMBER 11, 2023 VOLUME 3 PREVIEW OF FALL EVENTS
This is the first information page of the Vol 3 PART 3, 2023. It will highlight my fall format.
1) Ryder Cup coverage Pages 9 to 13 (BLOGS FROM 9/26 to 10/1, 2023)
2) DP World Tour and LIV events as well as the 9 remaining PGA events. The field for DP & LIV will be stronger as some PGA players will participate in the DP events and there will be 3 final LIV events which will be the highlight of their seasons. While the PGA events will have less stars, there will be some . The total Purses for these events will be $61.3M.
If will also give some younger and older players with fading careers a chance at earn FedX Cup points, additional earnings, and a place in the PGAs first official 2024 event “The Sentry”.
Last year Max Homa, Keegan Bradley,Tom Kim, Tony Finau, Seamus Power, and a few others
Including Rory McIlroy and Viktor Hovland were able to jump start their 2023 season with victories in the Fall.
3) I will be including in Fall blogs my opinion on this Fall season which may be the start of blending PGA, LIV & DP Tour players. As the agreement between LIV/PAC and the PGA
& DP world tour begins to take shape, it is my feeling that the biggest impact will be on this Fall season. Most of the PGA players take a break form August 27 2023 until the beginning of January 2024. Some play in a few selected tournaments that they favor, but in 2024 the real competition will not start until the second signature event, The AT&T Pebble Beach Pro Am. Currently only the top 70 PGA players will be eligible for signature events with purses yet to be determined. I feel that all players will be incorporated into selected tournaments from all 3 tours. There probably will be an agreement by the key TV networks CBS, NBC, Golf Channel, BBC and European and World Wide networks as to broadcasting rights for all events.
Then the fun begins!!! This is what I see happening.
(A) Despite what Greg Norman and Phil Mickelson say or think, LIV and its ridiculous format with teams, uniforms, nicknames, shotgun starts, 54 hole setup and carnival atmosphere, “IS DONE”.
(B) LIV’s key tournaments may be absorbed by the DPW Tour, or a new league formed.
(C) LIV members will be allowed to join the DP World Tour or the PGA with certain restrictions and penalties, or form a new league with a format like the PGA and DP World Tour..
(D) The 2024 PGA season will start January 4th, 2024 at the Sentry Tournament in Kapalua Maui-Hawaii, and be completed Nov 16 to 19 at the DP World Championship in Dubai. The emphasis form January to August will be USA based events with events in Australia, South Africa, the UK and the Middle East sprinkled in. These countries will then become the main location for events from September, October and November.
Player participation & involvement will be have to be determined.
None of the players want to play 11 months a year, but there is enough talent to provide competitive and star studded tournaments for that time period and players will determine their individual needs for time off. If the players want to continue to have total purses approaching $1 Billion per year which would be the amount if PGA, DP Tour and LIV Prize money for 2023 continues, there are time concessions they will have to make.
The above assumptions are personal and there will be much more to consider in order to make the PGA/PAC arrangement work. My commentary is not based on any official or reported news media. Having been involved in covering professional golf since Jan 1 2021, I feel I have a good knowledge of this sport. I will welcome any feedback on this blog.
In September we will cover 1 PGA Tour event, 1DP World Tour, 1 LIV event and 5 pages on
The Ryder Cup at the end of September. Keep page 1(33) for our full Fall Schedule.
