PREVIEW JOHN DEERE CLASSIC
AT DEER RUN
July 6 to July 9, 2023 Par 71 Purse $7,400,000+$300,000=4%
This tournament is played a week before the Scottish Open and 2 weeks before The OPEN. Most of the top players are in the UK preparing for The OPEN, and playing in the Scottish to familiarize themselves with the Links courses. Only 9 of the top 50 players are in the John Deere. However there are good reasons to watch. Several young players and veterans are looking for their first win or to advance in the FedX standings. The tournament attracts about 10,000 per day and has a strong history. In 2013 Jordan Spieth won his first tournament here as well as Payne Stewart in 1982.
This, like many tournaments from now until December have a large impact on the areas where they are played. With the LIV/PGA agreement there is no doubt that these tournaments may suffer or disappear. I hope that the new agreement will address this.
It seems to me that the current players and PGA/LIV management are most concerned with the increase in revenues for players both in the PGA and LIV. The influx of PIF money will definitely increase incomes for all professional golfers. However TV revenue is key, and golf does not get the ratings that the NFL & NBA does. So forget about about that kind of money.
An example of the TV issue was this years Rocket Mortgage final round. Everyone wanted to see the playoff and see Rickie Fowler win. It was only available on CBS APP? 90% of viewers including me did not see him win live, but on reruns. Golf is a beautiful game which I love and our goal at “ogolfit.com” is to provide more information in a concise manner than you will get with mainstream media. I hope you will give us a continued following.
OPENING FAVORITES ODDS with current odds and OWGR, top 9 players in field.
Russell Henley 14/1 #32 I don’t know why he is picked so high.
Denny McCarthy 14/1 #33 A lot of people think he will win. I don’t.
Cameron Young 20/1 #19 He is the best player in the field and should win.
Chris Kirk 30/1 #43 I picked him as a LS last week and he just made the cut. No chance.
Emiliano Grillo 33/1 #41 Some writters are picking him.
Nick Taylor 40/1 #45 Won Canadian Open and has played well, but he won’t win.
Seamus Power 40/1 #49 I love this Irishman, but he has had a so/so year.
Sepp Streka 50/1 #37 I do not know why he is #39. Last win Honda in Feb, 2022.
KH Lee 50/1 #50 Won the Byron Nelson twice, nothing since.
LONGSHOTS I think one of these guys can win.
#1 Taylor Moore 28/1 I think he is your best bet as a LS.
#2 Ludvig Alberg 22/1 He will win in 2024 and maybe this week.
#3 Lucus Glover 80/1 Played very well in Rocket Mortgage, put $10.00 on him.
#4 J.T. Postin 40/1 Won last year but a bad bet this year.
My picks to win; #1 Cameron Young, #2 Taylor Moore, #3 Ludvig Albert.
