PREVIEW ROCKET MORTGAGE CLASSIC DETROIT GOLF CLUB PAR 72

JUNE 29 TO JULY 2, 2023 PURSE $8,800,000 + $400,000= 5%

Detroit Golf Club opened in 1899 and will host this tournament for the 5th time.  It is the flattest course on the PGA TOUR as pictured above.  Last year’s winner was Tony Finau who was 26 under par and won by 5 strokes.  He feels it will take 30 under par to win this year. Three players in the FedX top 10 are playing, #3 Max Homa, #5 Keegan Bradley #8 Tony Finau.  All of the top 9 players listed below are currently in the top 70 for qualifying for the three tournament Tour Champions event in August.  Two well known players who are outside the top 70 Shane Lowry #74 & Adam Scott #76 are not playing.

OPENING ODDS:  One of these top 3 should win.

Tony Finau 12/1 He may win and repeat.  He won 2 in a row last year.

Rickie Fowler 14/1 He is #17 in FedX Cup points, and this may be his best shot to win.

Justin Thomas 14/1 Finished strong at Travelers and would love to get a win before the OPEN.

Collin Morikawa 14/1 They keep putting him in the top 10 and he continues to fail to win.

Max Homa 18/1 He just is not playing up to expectations.

Hideki Matsuyama 20/1 May be the best payoff bet.  He definitely could win.

Tom Kim 22/1 Keeps showing signs of getting his first win, but not getting off to good starts.

Sungjae Im 22/1 He seems to always be in contention but no wins yet.

Keegan Bradley 28/1 He has to have a letdown after almost blowing a 6 stroke lead last week.

LONGSHOTS  In a diluted field someone may show up, but I doubt it.

Harris English 40/1 I picked him as a long shot last week and he just made the cut.

Chris Kirk 50/1 He is #24 in FedX points, and won the Honda Classic this year.

Taylor Moore 60/1 Has a win this year and ranked #28 FedX Cup.

Hayden Buckley 110/1 My super longshot, #42 in FedX and has shown some potential.
