US OPEN RESULTS ROUNDS 1 & 2

RESULTS ROUNDS 1&2

US OPEN June 15 &16, 2023

BEST STORY PART 4  We hope this turns out similar to the Michael Block story during the PGA Championship.  In our Preview we highlighted Olin Browne Jr.(3500/1),  we will also be covering Berry Henson( 3500/1), an even better story.  He is a 43 year old from Palm Springs who qualified for the first time for a major after 14 or 15 previous tries.  He turned pro in 2003 and has played on about 15 different tours including the last 10 years on the Asian tour which has very small purses.  LIV agreed in Feb of 2022 to invest $300M in this tour, which essentially means they now own it.  While all the details have not been worked out between LIV and the PGA, we will be covering the opportunities that Saudi money will create for players like Berry in the future.  In the meantime we will follow his progress in this years US Open along with Olin Browne Jr. (3500/1) who qualified on his 17th try.  His father played on the PGA Tour, and played in 12 US Opens.

ROUND 1 156 players started.  Rickie Fowler and Xander Schauffele shoot lowest RD in a US Open, 62.

#1 Rickie Fowler-8 62 He made a change with his putter and it seemed to help.

#1 Xander Schauffele-8 I think he is ready to win, but I’m pulling for Rickie.

#3 Dustin Johnson & Wyndham Clark-6 64

#5 Rory McIlroy & Brian Harman-5 65

#7 B. DeChambeau, Scottie Scheffler & 5 others & 5 others-3 67

#14 Tony Finau, Max Homa, Joaquin Niemann & 8 others-2 68.

#25 Jon Rahm, Viktor Hovland, Eric Cole, Cameron Smith, Phil Mickelson & 8 others-1 69.

#38 Corey Conners, Sergio Garcia, & 16 others E 70.

#56 Patrick Cantlay, Matt Fitzpatrick, Brooks Koepka & 24 others+1 71.

#83 H. Matsuyama, Patrick Reed, Jordan Spieth, Shane Lowry, Nick Taylor & 19 others +2 72.

#123 Berry Henson+4 74 Started at #10 bogies 4 of first 7 holes, then par for last 11.

#137 Olin Browne+5 75/ 2 BDs, 4 bogies, 3 birdies.  I don’t think these guys will make the cut.

ROUND 2 Dustin Johnson quadruple bogies Par 4 #2.  Could cost him a chance at win. RD#3 will be key for a Fowler win.  It is difficult to go wire to wire at the US Open.

#1 Rickie Fowler-10 68 Started with 3 birdies but last 15 holes, 5 birdies, 6 bogies.

#2 Wyndham Clark-9 67/ 4 birdies,1 bogie.  Won $3.6M with a win at Wells Fargo in May.

#3 Rory McIlroy-8 67 Finished strong, birdies 6 of last 9 holes.

#3 Xander Schauffele-8 70 Bogies 3 holes 13,14,15, and falls from 1st to 3rd.

#5 Harris English-7 66 Birdies 5 of first 9 holes.

#6 Dustin Johnson-6 70 Shoots-4 on last 16 holes to make up for disaster at #2.

#8 Scottie Scheffler-5 68 Still putting poorly.

#10 Cameron Smith-4 67 Five birdies 2 bogies.

#11 Tony Finau-3 69 Four birdies 3 bogies.

Winner should come from top 6.

CUT+2  Phil Mickelson, Jordan Spieth+3 Corey Conners, Max Homa, Justin Rose, Nick Taylor+4 Adam Scott+5 Olin Brown+7 Jason Day+9 Berry Henson+10 Justin Thomas+14
