THE MASTERS – FINAL ROUND

SUNDAY APRIL 9, 2023 FINAL Round

Scores for the top group through 6 holes were Koepka-13 (birdied 2)

Rahm-9 (birdied 2, bogied 4&5) Bennett-6 (bogied 1&2).

Tiger Woods withdrew due to re-aggravating his planter faciitis.

He started round 3 on #10 which he bogied, then bogied 14 & DBs on 15 & 16 for a score of +9 which placed him in last place at 54.

FINAL ROUND STANDINGS

#1 Jon Rahm-12 276 $3,240,000Birdied 3 then 8 while Koepka bogied 3&6 to take a 2 shot lead which he never gave up.

#2 Brooks Koepka-8 280 $1,944,000 Bogied 5 of first 14 holes.  Did not look the same ass the first 3 rounds.  Later blamed LIV.  He said his body is used to playing only 54 holes.

#2 Phil Mickelson-8 280 $1,944,000 Eight birdies, 1 bogie.  His best tournament since winning the PGA.  He was very low key during the entire tournament, and both he and especially Koepka seem to be missing the PGA computation.

#4 Jordan Spieth-7 281 $744,000 Put on a great final round charge with 9 birdies, but 3 bogies cost him.  Still too inconsistent, especially with his driver.

#4 Patrick Reed-7 281 $744,000 After a DB on #2 wound up -4 for final round 68.  He gave LIV 3 players to PGA’s 5 in top 4 spots.

#4 Russell Henley-7 281 $744,000 Under par 3 of 4 rounds.  Biggest surprise finish, started 80/1.

#7 Viktor Hovland-6 282 $580,500 He was in the hunt until DB on #6.  Never recovered.  Good young player with putting problems and seems to always shot himself in the foot.

#7 Cameron Young-6 282 $580,500 Eagled #13 but bogies on #12 & #18 prevented him from finishing higher.  He has played well in his Sophomore season and is due to win.

One of the most famous Masters Sundays was in 2016 when Jordan Spieth was about to win his 2nd straight Masters.  After playing the first 5 holes at even par, he made 4 consecutive birdies to take a 5 stroke lead going into the back 9.  However he made bogeys at 10 & 11 while Danny Willett made birdies on 13 & 14 to cut his lead to one.  He and caddie, Michael Greller did not discuss his tee shot on 12 and he pulled a 9 iron.  His ball hit the green and bounced back into the water.  Clearly frustrated, he hit his next shot from the drop zone into the water again and made a quadruple bogie 7.  Spieth shot 73 and wound up tied for second with Lee Westwood, and loosing by 3 to Danny Willett.  In Masters history, no one has won when scoring triple bogie or more.
