THE MASTERS – THIRD ROUND

            MASTERS THIRD ROUND SAT/SUN APRIL 8/9, 2023                            

Round 3’s weather was awful with heavy rains but no lightning and was played from 11:30 to 3:15.  Final group Brooks Koepka shot-1, Jon Rahm+1, Sam Bennett+3 for the first 6 holes.

Tiger Woods withdrew on Saturday night after completing 9 holes at +6 and in lsat place. He  re-aggravated his planter fasciitis and could not continue on Sunday.

Sunday completion round started 7:30AM. 

COMPLETE STANDINGS BOTH PGA & LIV PLAYERS

#1 Brooks Koepka-11 73 He lost 2 strokes on the final 12 holes payed on Sunday with 1 birdie and 3 bogies.

#2 Jon Rahm-9 73 After trailing by 4 at stoppage of play on Saturday made 2 birdies and 2 bogies on the final 12 holes Sunday to cut Koepka’s lead to 2.

#3 Victor Hovland-8 70 Five straight birdies from 11 to 15 to move from 6 to 3 by shooting the  2nd lowest round.

#4 Patrick Cantlay-6 68 Six birdies & 2 bogies and stayed at #4 by shooting lowest round.

#5 H. Matsuyama-5 69 ties with Hovland for 2nd lowest round, stays tied for #5.

#5 Russell Henley-5 71 Stays tied for #5 with 2 birdies and 1 bogie.  He had a 67 in round 2 with 5 birdies and 0 bogies.

#7 Colin Morikawa-4 74 Four bogies from #6 to #11 drops him from #4 to #7.

#7 Sam Bennett-4 76 Five bogies drops him out of final group.

#9 Jason Day-3 74 and 6 others.  Day has 4 bogies and may fall out of top 10. 

#15 Cameron Young-2 75 and 4 others including Scottie Scheffler and Matt Fitzgerald.

Young Double bogies  #7 & #12  and 3 more bogies will probably fall out of top 10.

# 11 White Dogwood 505’ par 4.  Dogleg right with a pound guarding left front of green.

Most players hit their 2nd shot towards the right part of the green.

#12 Golden Bell 155’ Par 3.  Narrow green with bunker short of it.  Short shots either go in or bounce back into the water.  Sunday pin placement is usually most difficult tucked to the right.

#13 Azalea 545’ Par 5.  Originally 465’, lengthened to 510” in early 2000, to 545 this year.  Tee had been just off the 12th green, but has been moved back 35’.  It has been one of the easiest Holes in the past.
