FARMERS INSURANCE OPEN RESULTS JANUARY 28, 2023

The Farmers Insurance Golf Tournament was established in 1952.  It has been played on several courses in the San Diego area.  In 1968 the event began its present relationship with Torrey Pines Golf Club and Tom Weiskopf won $30,000.  The South Course has hosted the US Open twice.  Winners were Tiger Woods in 2008 and Jon Rahm in 2021.

ROUND 1 Thomas shot-4 68, Rahm+1 73, double bogied difficult par 7.

Both played the difficult South Course where the average score was +0.23 North-2.27 to Par.

Harry Higgs eagled #7 plus 5 birdies 1 bogie for 66 on the South Course.

Arjun Atwel was picked for last tied for #155+8 (80).

#1 Sam Ryder-8 (300/1)64 missed 1st 2 cuts in 2023.

#1 Brent Grant-8 (1000/1)64 A real long shot.

#1 Aaron Rai-8 (130/1)64 a DP World Tour winner.

#4 Brendan Steele-7 (100/1)65 playing partner of Ryder.

ROUND 2 Winds gusting up to 30MPH keeping scores closer to par.  Players who played South Course yesterday should have an advantage and par will be a good score.

Morikawa shot par and not showing any negative signs from Sentry.

Jon Rahm had low score 67 to tie for 14th, Tano Goya also shot 67. 

#1 Sam Ryder-12 68 132 Second best score of the day, only 1 bogie.

#2 Brandan Steele-9 70 135 scored 5 birdies 3 bogies.

#3 Tano Goya-7 67 137 from Argentina 6 birdies 2 bogies

#4 Max Homa scored 4 straight birdies from #3 to #6)-6

ROUND 3 Finau came from even par to-8 and shot the low round of the day 64.

#1 Ryder-12 Shot par 1 bogie 1 birdie.

#2 Rahm-10 Shot 31 on front 9 with1 eagle, 4 birdies and 1 bogie and finished at 66.

#3 Finau-8 Eagled first hole then 6 birdies 0 bogies.

#4 Homa, Morikawa, Im & Theegala-7

Tano Goya 79 E Dropped fro #3 to #48.

FINAL ROUND Homo came from 5 back and shot the lowest round with 7 birdies & 1 bogie. He started 5 strokes back, birdied 3 of the first 6 holes to get to-10, and 2 of the final 4.

Bradley had 6 birdies and 0 bogies and also shot 66 to finish 3rd.

Matsuyama scored 30 on the front 9 (-10), but 3 biggies on the back, 69 tied for 9th.

Ryder bogied 7 & 8 to reduce his lead from 4 to 1 and missed at lest 4 fairways into difficult rough. He made 3 bogies and 1 double bogie for +3 on the final 4 holes. 

Rahm had 2 bogies and 1 double bogie on the front 9 and was never in the running.
