AMERICAN EXPRESS GOLF TOURNAMENT RESULTS JANUARY 22, 2023

Tournament will start with 156 professionals and 156 Amateurs who each pay $29,000 to play 3 rounds with 6 different pros & private parties at night.   The tournament began in 1960 and American Express became the sponsor in 2020.

“NB” We incorrectly included Colin Morikawa in this tournament.  He skipped it to spend a few extra days in Hawaii.  He will play in the Farmers next week and the following 3 tournaments. Information on his meltdown at the Sentry can be found in the Preview Blog of this segment. 

ROUND 1 Aaron Wise birdied 6 out of 7 from 5 to 11 then pared 12 to 16 and double bodied 17 & 18 to finish -2(70).  He completed the 3rd round at -8 and missed the cut due to these 2 holes.

ROUND 2 Odds given on only 72 of 156 golfers. No Odds given on Davis Thompson at the start.  Tom Kim lowest round of day 62, 8 birdies 1 eagle 0 bogies. 

#1 Davis Thompson-8(-18)(64) Shot 30 on the back 9, for round 3 eagles, 4 birdies, 2 bogies.

#2 Jon Rahm-8-(16)(64)  Shot 8 birdies no bogies.

#3 Jason Day-8, Duncan-5, Im-6, Tom Kim-10, Poston-6(-13)

ROUND 3 Rahm and Thompson seem far enough out front for one of them to win.

Rahm is 4/7 to win and Thompson 3/1.

CUT-10 After 3rd round instead of #2.  Only pros play in final round.  

NOTABLES MISSING:  #107 Wise(-5) Zalatoris, Zach Johnson, Luke List (won Farmers last year)

FINAL ROUND Rahm birdied 16 to take the lead and held on.  Thompson did not fold under the pressure of playing with Rahm, and both missed several long putts by inches. 

Xander Schauffele shot the low round to move from -15 to tied for 3rd.  He made a double eagle #5 and 7 birdies for a 62.
